Abdullah Hammas was born in the city of Abha and spent his formative years moving with his family between various cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His artistic journey began under the guidance of his father, who instilled in him a love for drawing by providing him with the necessary tools such as colors and notebooks. He pursued formal art education at the Institute of Art Education and graduated as a teacher in 1973. From there, Hammas embarked on a distinguished career as an educator, sharing his passion for art with students for 37 years. Hammas quickly emerged as one of the most prominent artists in the Arab world and a pioneering figure in the fine art movement within the Kingdom. He was among the first Saudi artists to participate in both local and international exhibitions, showcasing his talent and contributing to the growing recognition of Saudi art on the global stage. Throughout his career, Hammas held numerous leadership positions within the artistic community, demonstrating his commitment to fostering creativity and cultural exchange. He served as president of the Jeddah Culture and Arts Society on two occasions and was appointed as secretary-general of the House of Fine Artists, having previously held the position of its president. For Abdullah Hammas, art was not just a vocation but a way of life. He once famously stated, "I consider my whole life to be art," reflecting his deep-seated dedication to his craft and the transformative power of creativity in shaping both individual expression and collective identity.
