AUCTIONS OF ANIMAL SCULPTURES

Since 2019, auctions from the Bestiary Department have brought together works illustrating the representation of animals in Art. This was a major theme in the history of art in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Art critic René Chavance wrote in 1930 about the first exhibition of animal artists at the Galerie Edgar Brandt: "Men have never lost anything by taking animals as models. Even if our pride suffers, we must admit that these inferior brothers sometimes teach us useful lessons

It is this ambiguous relationship between man and animal that experts and specialists wish to present at auction. The department is headed at MILLON by Antonio Casciello, accompanied by Alexis Jacquemard and Florian Douceron , specialist clerks, and Patrick Fourtin, our expert. The entire team is at your service to showcase your works, appraise them and retrace their history.

An annual event

The "BESTIAIRE" sales showcase the greatest animal sculptors of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

Through its depictions of wildlife, animal art reflects artists' ideas of themselves and the world around them.

Panthers, bears, felines, horses, birds and rodents by some of the most famous 19th-century animal artists, including Antoine-Louis Barye and Christophe Fratin, will be under the hammer, along with works by François Pompon, Armand Petersen, Edouard Marcel Sandoz, Roger Godchaux, Georges Lucien Guyot, Rembrandt Bugatti, José Maria David and François-Xavier Lalanne
